What is Solar Panel Subsidy in India?
A government initiative to slash the upfront cost of going solar for every Indian household.
Solar panel subsidies are financial incentives provided by the Indian government to help homeowners reduce the burden of initial solar installation costs. Under the flagship PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the government offers Central Financial Assistance (CFA) ranging from βΉ30,000 to βΉ78,000 β directly credited to your bank account.
This revolutionary scheme has transformed how millions of Indians perceive renewable energy adoption. The scheme primarily targets middle and lower-income groups, helping them save over βΉ15,000 annually on electricity bills while contributing to India's green energy mission.
India's installed solar capacity has surpassed 100 GW as of early 2025, growing 30x in the past decade. Non-fossil fuel installations now represent nearly 49% of India's total 476 GW installed capacity β a monumental shift toward clean energy.
The rooftop solar subsidy is disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) β transparent, fast, and directly into your account within 30 days of installation approval.
